I had to quickly recover from my photographing Cincinnati wedding on Friday and a Dayton wedding on Saturday to drive to Columbus to photography a fantastic Orthodox Jewish wedding at Beth Jacob Congregation. We started the pictures at Caryn’s mothers house in front of her garden. Luckily for us it was an overcast day and I was able to do pictures without the presence of what I like to call “open shade” created by tree foliage. Based on tradition, Ben (chatan) and Caryn (kallah) were not allowed to touch each other on their wedding day until after the ceremony and the wedding day is considered to be a personal Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement). All of the couple’s past misdeeds are forgiven and they begin their life together with a ‘clean slate’. During the wedding day, I photographed the Bedeken (Bridal veiling), the Tish, the breaking of the glass and celebratory dancing. There is nothing like a Jewish wedding to bring all of the guests in to celebrate. Also, you have to be in very good cardiovascular condition to sustain 20 minutes of vigorous dancing.
