My son Slade is an accomplished 8 year old already entering his 4th year of competitive hockey. After becoming a free agent in May 2010, Slade decided to join the Dayton Bomber Traveling Squirts. He is trying to follow in the footsteps of his second favorite hockey player, Alexander Ovechkin, whom Slade met three years earlier when we lived in Virginia. His first favorite is Zdeno Chara of the Boston Bruins.
Yesterday, I finally made it to my first games, after missing the previous half dozen games because of wedding commitments. I love his enthusiasm for the sport and I must admit that I am probably living vicariously through his success. He was also honored with an Alternate Captain designation about which he was very enthused. Here are some pics from yesterday’s game at Kettering Ice Center.
